As I prepare these weekly insights into the visits I have made to conventions, and those I met along the way, I realised that finding exactly the right words to describe meeting your heroes, isn’t always easy.  Some stories are easier to write than others, some people were easier to remember than others. Some were more engaged with the process than others.

Here we go with this next batch, including some very nice people indeed.

E - F

Michael Ensign

Leslie Easterbrook

Alice Eve

Lou Ferrigno

Brendan Fraser

Michael Ensign

You might not know the name but if you’ve watched movies and TV at all in the last 50 plus years, you’ll recognise the face of Michael Ensign. The epitome of the jobbing character actor, he’s appeared in everything from Midnight Express to Seabiscuit;  he was in both  Raise the Titanic and Titanic and his TV credits run from MASH to NCIS

Not forgetting his appearances in several different series of Star Trek.  He also appeared on stage in the West End with Debbie Reynolds in Irene. As you can tell, there was plenty for me to talk to him about and this was one of those occasions where no-one else was queuing to speak to him…we chatted for ages and I found him to be a charming and engaging man.

Leslie Easterbrook

I loved the Police Academy movies. Leslie Easterbrook played Sgt Callahan and I recall she had a huge gun…anyway, she was very warm and chatty and quite tactile. Not that I minded.

Alice Eve

Ms Eve appeared  in Star Trek: Into Darkness playing Dr Carol Marcus. She was very polite but did not seem to be fully enjoying the convention experience.

Lou Ferrigno

The Incredible Hulk was must watch TV in the late 1970’s and a chance to meet Lou Ferrigno was reason enough for me to attend the convention in Manchester, December 2018.  Although there were long queues for the photographs, Mr Ferrigno didn’t rush anyone and I got the impression he would have been there all day just chatting to the people who’d come to see him.

Brendan Fraser

Brendan Fraser is a film star. On the day I was to get this photograph, the queues were so long, and he was escorted into the room by a huge entourage and I thought, ‘Oh well, a quick photo and away we go’. I was wrong.  When my time came to step forward he smiled and shook my hand and I did what I always do, thanked him for the work he had done and on this occasion I mentioned Gods and Monsters. Bang…the production line came to a halt. He asked my name and where I was from and we chatted amiably for about two minutes before he thanked me for coming and returned to the waiting, and rather frustrated, photographer. Brendan Fraser is a film star.

Moving on next week to G - I. From Victor Garber to Jason Isaacs.
