G-I
When they say, ‘don’t meet your heroes’, well sometimes they’re right, but most of the time I’ve not been disappointed. In this weeks meander down memory lane I recall meeting people who lived up to and beyond the expectations I had for them.
Victor Garber
Danny Glover
Jonathan Hyde
Tom Hopper
Jason Isaacs
Victor Garber
We begin with Victor Garber. There might be some who don’t recognise the name, but as a fan of the music of Stephen Sondheim, I not only knew the name but loved his work on Sweeney Todd and Assassins. Of course he was also in Titanic, playing Mr Andrews, and has been a stalwart of many TV series including Alias and Legends of Tomorrow. When I got my chance to have a chat with him, we spoke ONLY about Sweeney Todd and he was really happy to chat away about that groundbreaking piece of musical theatre. He wore his smile with such ease, and so did I.
Danny Glover.
What can I say about meeting Danny Glover? I met Danny Glover!!!!!
Jonathan Hyde
My Hyde was at a local convention in Nottingham and had, in the previous months, been appearing on stage in Sheffield in a production of Frost/Nixon. I also saw him as Julius Caesar, at The Crucible in Sheffield. He enjoyed talking about the challenges of playing Nixon and I found him to be a pleasant and quietly spoken man, perhaps a little embarrassed by the attention?
Tom Hopper
I first saw Tom Hopper when he played Sir Percival in the BBC series Merkin…sorry, Merlin. He went on to feature in other successful shows like Black Sails, Game of Thrones and The Umbrella Academy.
I really only met him because many of the Merlin cast were at a convention and I didn’t want to leave anyone out. He’s a big healthy lad but he very easy to talk to.
Jason Isaacs
I won’t bother telling you who he is or what he’s been in, but sufficed to say, as he was in Star Trek:Discovery, I had to meet him. My impression was that he doesn’t like bullshit.
Next week we move on to J & K, featuring:
Michael Jayston
Doug Jones
Sam J Jones
Dominic Keating
Alice Krige
Walter Koenig
I have a couple of really nice stories to tell about two of the above.
