L

Not many tales to tell this week other than one very lovely moment and I think even if I didn’t write anything and just posted the pictures, you’d realise with whom that moment was shared.

So this week we recall meeting:

Shazad Latif

Valerie Leon

Ken Leung

John Levine

Norman Lovett

Shazad Latif

Let’s be honest, when you see Shazad Latif on screen, even as a Klingon, there’s something very striking about him. Mrs B was ‘struck’ by him first as she was a fan of Spooks. It was when he was cast as Ash Tyler in Star Trek:Discovery, that he came onto my radar. He gave such a brilliant performance as Ash/Voq and so when it was announced he would be at a convention along with many of his cast mates, I booked tickets.

As I said, on screen Mr Latif has real presence, you can’t help but think he’s a good looking man and then you meet him in the flesh, and there’s me, standing next to this 6ft plus beautiful man, waiting for the camera to click and all I can say is “Do you think people will be able to tell us apart in this picture?”  Click.  I got a big hug and he was really nice when I went to speak to him later on. He came across as a lovely man.

Valerie Leon

Now having already spoken about one handsome and imposing figure  now we  move on to the most statuesque and glamorous women ever.

You might recall when I met Martine Beswick, she was at a convention with three other Bond girls and one of them was Valerie Leon. But Ms Leon was so much more than a Bond girl, with appearances in Carry On films, Hammer horror films, a Pink Panther movie, plus about every British TV series you can think of in the last 50 years or so, from The Saint to Last of the Summer Wine.

The thing is, although she might be remembered for her looks, when you meet her you realise what an articulate and skilled actor she is. We chatted for quite a while that day and I was left thinking about how little we sometimes know about people.

Ken Leung

Ken Leung has appeared in many great movies including X-Men: Last Stand and Star Wars:The Force Awakens but it was his TV work that led me to book to meet him. From Lost to The Night Shift, he always, for me, gave very well rounded performances. In meeting the man I found him to be charming if a little taciturn, but we had a nice chat.

John Levene

My Doctor was Jon Pertwee. The simple reason being the age I was at the time I was able to watch the show with any great regularity. I do have vague memories of watching Patrick Troughton as the Second Doctor and I know that John Levene as Corporal (later Sgt) Benton made his first appearances under his tenure but it was those excellent episodes with Pertwee like  Terror of the Autons, The Daemons and The Three Doctors where Unit and the redoubtable Sgt Benton, came into their own. It was lovely to meet John Levene and as you can see, he was very pleased to meet his fans.

Norman Lovett

There is one thing about Norman Lovett that makes him special as far as I’m concerned. He doesn’t charge for selfies. He asks for a donation to a dog’s charity. Nice man.

Next week we begin looking at ‘M’ :

Lee Majors

Stephen Manley

Eddie McClintock

Sonequa Martin-Green
