P (Part 2) Plus A Little Q
P (Part 2) plus a little Q
Greetings my loyal followers and welcome to this weeks walk along memory lane. I’ll be recounting my meetings with the below listed celebs and I’ll be very honest, even as write this introduction I’m smiling. You’ll find out why if you read on.
This week we we shall recall meeting:
Sian Phillips
Robert Picardo
Andrew Lee Potts
Zachary Quinto
Sian Phillips
I first became aware of just how amazing an actress Sian Phillips is by watching her in I Claudius. This was 1976. I didn’t realise then that she performed in musical theatre but in 1997 I was able to witness her tour de force performance in Marlene. She was just mesmerising. Jump forward 20 years and in Nov 2017, I’m standing in a convention hall in Birmingham, and sitting about 30ft away is the lady herself. And she is just sitting there. No minder. No queues. Just this legend, and behind her a poster showing her character in Dune. I almost didn't speak to her. I just knew I’d be tongue-tied. But, thank goodness I did. I was able to sit and chat with her for ages. She was just the nicest and most unpretentious person you can imagine. As I left her I mentioned I might see her later as I’d booked a photo shoot…”why wait, let’s have one now” she said. And we did.
Robert Picardo
There’s a sort of quirky side to Mr Picardo’s nature and it comes across in so much of his work. His talent as a character actor gave me many performances to enjoy over there years and many reasons to wish to meet him, but as a Trekkie it was his role as The Doctor on Star Trek:Voyager, that lead me to Olympia in 2019.
The capturing of this moment was all I got. The venue was huge and full of people and I had a panic attack…maybe I should have called a doctor?
Andrew Lee Potts
A really easy young man to talk to. A really hard working actor trying his best to produce quality work. It was nice to chat with him and later to support one of his projects.
Zachary Quinto
When Zachary Quinto looks into your eyes, you feel he is really looking at you. How such a big star has the energy, time and empathy to make everyone (in the long queue waiting to have a photo taken with him,) feel special, is beyond understanding. But he does it…well he did it for me. There were no throw away comments, no ‘thanks for coming’ as you sometimes get, it was “Hello, how are you? I hope you're having a good day?” My reply, “I’m having a great day, and meeting you made it even better”. I know, cheesy beyond belief, but that’s how he made me feel. This is all a bit fan-boyish isn’t it but it’s Zachary Quinto for goodness sake!
Next week we shall recall meeting:
John Ratzenberger
Iwan Rheon
Andrew Robinson
Marice Roëves
Brandon Routh
Jeri Ryan
and one of them was a complete arsehole.
