This week’s wander down memory lane includes a return to my first ever convention and meeting one individual who made sure I kept on coming back.

Today we recall meeting:

Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa

George Takei

Henry Thomas

Connor Trinneer

Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa

Mr Tagawa has one of those faces that’s popped up in so many films across the years, especially ones that show off his martial arts skills.  You always recognise him, but maybe are unable to name him.  On film he usually plays the villain, in person he enjoyed chatting about his career and his jacket!

George Takei

My first convention. I’m wearing a t-shirt that was a reward for supporting Mr Takei’s venture into musical theatre, Allegiance. If you donated at a certain level, you got the t-shirt. George was charming and friendly, both during the photo shoot and subsequent autograph session. I’d been so nervous about meeting one of my heroes and I’d not really enjoyed the convention up to that point, all the crowds, the pushing and queueing, nowhere to sit down for a break…but meeting George Takei made me feel it was worth all that crap. Thanks George.

Henry Thomas.

He was lovely. What can I say. So quiet and unassuming. We chatted about ET of course but also about The Haunting of Hill House.

I was having a bad day health wise, the legs were not working very well, and as I started to walk away from where we had the ET photo taken, he came with me and took my arm to help me step through the all the set dressing. What a gent.

Connor Trinneer

Did not want to be at that this convention.  But, ever the pro, the lights came on for the photo shoot.

Next week we have one U and several W’s.
